happy sunday!  can you believe tomorrow is june?  where has this year gone?  i decided that since i started this blog to track my goals, i will update about them on the last day of the month.  i’m nervous!  🙂

1) run a 5k. – i was so inspired by all the incredible girls running the san diego marathon today that i started looking up races to run!  i came up with a schedule for myself, with the longer-term goal of running a half marathon by this time next year!

june 11 – midsummer night’s one-miler

july 9 – midsummer night’s 5k

aug 13 – midsummer night’s 5k

these races sound really cool because they are in my town and are after work.  i’d usually be working out anyway, so why not race?!  i’m excited!

sept 26 – dragon run 5k

this race is in my hometown, and benefits a scholarship for a boy from my HS that died a few years ago.  what better reason to run?

oct 24 – footsteps for friends 5k in haverford pa

nov 22 – rothman institute 8k

this race is part of the philadelphia marathon!  it will be such a great atmosphere around my favorite part of philly, and i cant believe i’m even thinking about running an 8k already!  i told you i was inspired today 🙂

2) get my freaking life in order. – i spent all day today cleaning and organizing!  and for the past week i’ve been putting away all my clothes as soon as i take them off… which sounds like something a 7 year old should be proud of – but trust me, its a big deal! next up is dusting and vacuuming regularly.

3) pass the cpa exam! – i did it!  i did it!  did i mention that i did it!

4) make dinner more frequently. – ohh boy.  not as many times as i wanted to, but enough for a good start i guess.  i had a rough week at work, but hopefully next month i’ll be making dinner all nights except friday and saturday!

5) lose 10 pounds. – yeah i dont like this goal anymore.  i decided with all the racing i’ll be doing (ha i’m so cool, right?) that this will come naturally.  i hate talking about losing pounds.  boo.

anyway, let’s dish.

friday:  ugh remember that diet-crashing manager?  well right after i finished this charming breakfast of yogurt w/go lean crunch, a naner and some tea:

i felt guilty for not eating a donut, since he had brought a dozen, and NO ONE ate any.  he was giving us crap about it, so i wanted to be the “good staff” and be nice.  ugh 290 calories of being nice.  it would have been a different story had i not already eaten a filling breakfast!

anyway lunch friday was a buffalo chicken quesadilla… which was so good!  and the cafeteria at our client puts nice emphasis on eating healthy so you can never feel too guilty when you eat there!  i had a few pieces of candy for snack (again, manager pressure.  he just doesnt get it!), but balanced it out with a few carrot sticks!  dinner was at our favorite bar, and i was craving a grilled cheese with chili.  weird combo but it was so good!  and our bar started serving frozen drinks and mojitos for summer.  this spells trouble!

yesterday started with breakfast at our favorite local place – ardmore station cafe.  i had the eggs florentine, but forgot to swap out the potatoes with a fruit cup like usual :-/ it was still scrumptious though!   we skipped lunch bc we ate pretty late, but before we went to a housewarming party i had my favorite snack:

this picture makes it look like the apple and peanut butter are falling off the desk!  haha.  the beverage of choice is bitter lemon – it’s like tonic water with lots of lemon in it.  it is so good and refreshing, and also contains quinine which quiets down my wacky legs (its like restless leg syndrome, but before i go to bed!)  its a good thing i had this snack, because while the bf and i expected a cook-out at this party, we got some snacks.  i tried to be good and just have some veggies and cheese, but it just didnt take the place of dinner… and before you knew it, i had housed the bbq chips.  the darn things are just so addicting!

we woke up super late this morning and again headed to station for some food.  i had a rueben sandwich, which i love there because it’s not a standard 10 lb sandwich.  just enough corned beef to taste yummy!  and a salad on the side.  snack was one two string cheeses, and dinner was this yummy concoction… homemade general tso’s chicken!  i got the sauce from trader joes (so good, highly recommend!) and picked up some brown rice from the local chinese place.  (we have no food in the house, its pretty embarrassing!) and cooked the chicken, stirred in the sauce, and BOOM! chinese food.  yum!

i also got reacquainted with the gym today… i did a short run – just one mile (in prep for my first race, haha!) and stretched a little.  it had been over 2 weeks since i hit the gym, and wanted to start out slow.  but it sure felt good!

i have had that song stuck in my head for days!  i would like to run to it, but seeing as how i’ve been stuck at work til 8-830 every night, that hasn’t quite been happening.  it seems i’ve been writing/thinking all week about getting back on track, but life is getting in my way.  also i’ve really been able to see how my emotions affect my eating habits as well.  that’s one reason why i wanted to start this blog… to figure out the patterns and try and change them. 

yesterday started off well:  the usual – yogurt + kashi, grapes, and tea

lunch was delicious:  a primo hoagie with fresh mozz and bruschetta topping.  i ate the whole thing.  oops 🙂 

snacks consisted of… umm, a few fun-size twix bars and some string cheese around 6pm. 

dinner was good as well, although mind you – i made this great menu for the week, and i’ve only made one recipe off of it!  last night was supposed to be robert’s turn to cook, which meant it was my turn to do dishes.  after a 12 hour day at work, that was the last thing i wanted to do, so i offered to pick something up.  we had grilled chicken sandwiches with dijon mustard, lettuce + tomato, and my favorite grilled veggie plate.  (i’m kind of addicted.)  i ate all the zucchini off of it, and some of the onions – i probably didnt even need to order it in the first place!  it was just sooo goooood… and of course we had to kill the ice cream cake for dessert.  the good news is that at least the ice cream cake is no longer staring at us from the freezer! 

all in all my meals for the day wouldn’t have been so bad if i didn’t eat such large portions of them.  i think that’s my biggest issue with stress… when i am upset or stressed out, my willpower goes out the window.  so let’s go with the biggest diet cliche ever and say… “next week will be better!”

in other news, this is the last day on this crazy client, and i couldn’t be more excited!  hoooray!

 

edit:  so my manager just walks into the audit room with a box of 12 donuts…  right AFTER i finish writing this post about getting back on track.  the thing is, there are only 3 of us on this team.  now this is something i’ve been struggling with ever since i started this job.  how do you politely decline treats like this (he is also the manager that brought us out 3 pounds of candy to share!)  when he is sitting right in front of you?!  i feel like its so rude to just leave them sitting there, but donuts are SO BAD for you!  any suggestions?

 

pretty much sums up my life this week.  pretty much that means no gym (i am NOT a morning person, so that is not an option) and yesterday it even meant eating all three meals at work.  woo freaking hoo.

i’m going to try and start taking pictures of what i eat… i am still not telling too many (or any) people about this blog until i feel really comfortable with it, so there will only be pictures when i’m by myself!

for starters, yesterday’s breakfast (and most days) was a yogurt with a handful of kashi go lean crunch, some fruit, and some citrus green tea.

lunch yesterday was a turkey ruben, with some baked bbq lays…  and a few pieces of chocolate throughout the day too.  my manager has this twisted notion that a team of 3 people should have a halloween bounty worth of candy within arms reach at all times.  i’ve done a fairly good job of restraining myself, but sometimes it just cant be helped…

like after you use your hard-earned accounting degree to take a walk in the rain to get your senior and manager some coffee at starbucks…  ooh yeah, chocolate was necessary after that!

for dinner i had a yummy salad, with grilled chipotle bbq chicken and black beans and tomatoes and corn… and the dressing mixed in!  grr!  i guess i should just be glad the firm was paying for it 🙂

once i got home from work (ohh you know, a casual 12+ hour day), i made myself feel better with some leftover birthday ice cream cake and peppermint tea:

lunch was chicken and veggie stir-fry.  i have a sneaking suspicion that the sauce had too much sugar in it, and the rice was white, but whatev.  it still tasted good!  somehow more of that candy snuck over to hang out with my ten-key

oh and there was more, trust me.  i needed it again after the day i had… not quite like yesteday but not so great either!  anyway, dinner was a rachel ray recipe with pasta (we only had white penne, lame!)  and tomatoes and onion and chicken broth.  it was pretty good… not as pretty as rach’s but it was yum-o none the less.  i dont know why i didnt take a picture of it… when you eat dinner at 10pm every night i guess you become too consumed with eating and not so much with the camera.  ohhhh well.

anyway the one good thing about staying late tonight was the ability to get to show you all the fabu view we have from our audit room, and how gorgeous the city looks at twilight.  i had the best walk to my train ever!  gorgeous weather, and the prettiest colors reflected on the buildings!

hey again.  i figured while i had the time i’ll put my menu out there for the week, and start working towards another one of my goals (cooking more!)

monday:  burgers.  it was memorial day, after all!  but even robert said his burger was too greasy, and i had a stomach ache… so dinner was a bust.

tuesday:  this yummy pasta dish from my gal rach.  without the bacon though… as robert says “it feels like too much extra cooking.”  the boy hates to do dishes, what can i say? 

wednesday:  again another one of my girl’s recipes… with shrimp and crusty bread.  i’ve been on a seafood kick lately!

thursday:  the easy-way-out of making swedish meatballs, with fat-free gravy from a can and egg noodles.  can you tell its roberts night to cook?  haha!

wow so i had three posts in a week last week, and dead air since then.  but i can explain!  it wasn’t even me not wanting or forgetting to blog.  the past six days have been a blur.  lets see how much i can actually remember (and how much i probably wish i don’t remember!)

tuesday night:  i am PUMPED to go for another 20 minute run. at least my head is… my body not so much.  i make it 5 minutes, so with warm-up/cool-down i had exercised for a whopping 15 minutes.  i felt like crap when i got home, until i checked my cpa exam score online.  I PASSED!  and not only did i pass, but i passed with a 91!  and not only did i get a 91, but it was the only exam i had left!  guess who’s a cpa?!  (*dances*)  so needless to say that made me feel better… and prompted me to have a glass of wine 🙂

wednesday:  you couldnt touch my mood on wednesday, even if i did have to stay at work til 8pm.  but i was taking off on thursday, and we had a four day weekend for the holiday, so i figured it was worth a few extra hours of work.  of course i decided not to exercise, because the night before had thrown off my schedule… so the bf and i went out for burgers and frozen drinks. 

thursday: didnt quite work out how i’d planned… aka i had wanted to get one more arms workout in before i had to wear a strapless dress on saturday.  guess what didnt happen?  and guess who met one of her friends at chick-fil-a in the mall?  and who then proceeded to drink orange juice and melon rum with her bff later that night?  (yes, btw, this makes three days in a row with an alcoholic beverage.)  oh but it was so good to just talk with my ashley girl. 

friday:  the day before the wedding!  i was supposed to plug in the treadmill at my parents house and crank out another 20 minutes… well i’m sure you can tell where this is going!  so i took my brother to the dentist instead, and then ran out immediately to spend the rest of the day with ashley girl.  it was well worth it in my opinion – i got a pretty red pedi for summer, and went shopping with my best friend, what could be worse than that?  i ate horribly that day too – including, but not limited to: mozzarella sticks, cheese fries, buffalo chicken sandwich, and crabby fries (with cheese, of course) at chickies and petes for the rehersal dinner.  oh, and beer.  (for those keeping track, that makes four days.)  but we had so much fun – i realized how much i’m going to miss some of the incidental people in ashleys life too, like her family and even waynes friends… i wont see them much even when she comes home to visit from CA, so it was nice to spend some time with them.

saturday was the wedding.  i will have a whole post on this when i upload the pictures to my computer.  it wont be about food or running or anything, just happiness – and i am going to make sure you all are forced to see the pictures 🙂  i hardly ate much on saturday – we didn’t have any time !  but at the reception i had filet and mashed potatoes.  and umm… wine.  no dessert though, i wasnt keen on anything they really had to offer.  it was prob for the best! 

sunday:  things started off well when i ordered my favorite veggie sandwich on million-grain wheat bread.  yum!  and i only ate  FEW fries (seriously!)  we went home and the bf and i completely vegged out, we even took a nap!  i havent napped since soph year in college!  and then we decided to go on a little date to the movies to see wolverine, and also to our favorite little brewery in king of prussia.  we had coupons, so we got a shrimp appetizer, which i was upset came fried (somehow missed “crispy” in the description), and an ahi tuna salad.  and beer.  (6 days.)

finally monday, and this weekend just caught up to me.  i had a greasy chicken sandwich for lunch, and wine.  (yup, one week straight of having at least one alcoholic beverage.  i am never drinking again! haha) by the time dinner came around i was feeling sick with a capital S.  luckily for me (but not so much for heather ) i read about how you shouldn’t really eat anything else if you have a stomach ache, so i had a few bites of burger and put it down again, and had some peppermint tea instead.  i am finally feeling better and ready to detox my life!  i bought a bunch of fresh veggies for dinner this week, and am glad to be back home and to my slowly-becoming-normal lifestyle.  i’m looking forward to exercising tonight and wearing my new running skirt that ashley gave me on friday for my birthday!  (do i have the best best friend or what?!)

anyway i know that was a mean ramble, and thanks for anyone who stuck with me the whole time.  i am pretty upset with the way i treated my body this weekend, so hopefully i’ll turn this wagon around this week and get back on track.  now that i’m not worried about fitting in my bridesmaid dress, i can actually focus on more substantial goals, like running that 5k!  hooray!

what do you all do when you’ve fallen off the wagon?  how do you turn yourselves around?

so three posts in less than a week – i think thats a new record for me!  this blog has officially gone farther than any of my previous attempts.  woooooo hoo!

anyway i’m trying to distract myself from constantly checking my cpa exam score online for the 10,000,000X today.  they were supposed to be out last night, and i am going crazy over here checking!  keep your fingers crossed for me.

things have been pretty good over this way.

friday for dinner, we went to one of my favorite places on the main line – sam’s grill.  i got a half chicken marinated in honey, soy sauce, and balsamic vinegar… grilled veggies (i’m addicted) and mac&cheese (bad cassie!)  then went out with some great friends and had THE BEST DRINK OF MY LIFE.  it was the alcoholic version of an arnold palmer (jack daly maybe?  i dunno they named it after some alcholic golfer) with sweet tea vodka and lemonade.  omg i could drink it every day!

saturday we went out for breakfast, and i had eggs florentine and a fruit cup… lunch was a bad idea aka chicken cutlet sandwich!  (so good though) and dinner was sushi, 3 glasses of wine, and two mixed drinks when we went out with my bffs from home for my birthday.  (oh boy!)  the place we went in jersey was awesome though… the people were hysterical!  i think we went more for the people watching than the dancing!  i managed to squeeze in some strength training in there too.  woot!

sunday was breakfast again (same place every weekend!) and i got an egg white omelette with tomatoes and spinach… turkey bacon… and a fruit cup.  lunch was mia (i have a tendency to forget to eat on weekends) so i had a kudos bar and an apple with peanut butter before i went for my twenty minute run!  i was so proud of myself, it felt sooo good!  i’m almost there… a few weeks to go before i am running a full 3.1 miles!  dinner on sunday was an individual size pizza with turkey sausage, artichokes, and low-fat mozz.  i ate the whole thing, ugh.  add portion control to the list of goals too haha. 

yesterday i finally tried greek yogurt as a meal, instead of as a replacement for sour cream lol.  i hate fruit on the bottom so the strawberry was an icky choice for me.  but i can see myself liking it more eventually… we’ll see!  lunch was a roasted veggie sandwich from cosi, and dinner was pasta and sausage courtesy of the bf, and gossip girl!  xoxo!

haha well yeah so keep your fingers crossed for my scores tonight.  i really need to get these tests out of the way! 

oh – so robert and i got in a little argument about pizza toppings.  he said “how do you justify eating healthier by putting more food on your pizza?”  the boy doesnt quite get protein and nutrients hah.  what do you all like on your pizza?

can you believe it’s friday?  i spent the first part of the week looking forward to my birthday, and the past two days looking forward to friday, its almost been like two short weeks!  this week hasnt quite been my healthiest, which is unfortunate because i am in my BEST FRIEND’s wedding next weekend and the dress is a little too tight for my liking around the chest.  normally the boobage would be embraced, but not until after the 23rd!  i was supposed to do my 20 minute run yesterday, but crapped out.  what a great start to the “new year,” right?  but i was really exhausted and feel like i’ve been getting sick… and all i wanted to do was curl up and watch two hours of grey’s.  well guess who fell asleep about 1:15 in?  and then woke up with about 5 min left, so i know how it all ends without any of the good stuff of how we got there….. oh well.  i feel much better after sleeping so much last night so i guess thats good at least.

anyway dinner last night was delish.  i picked up a salad with artichokes, red peppers, tomato, chicken and steak to share with the bf, and he baked a bunch of pierogies for us to share.  it sounds like an odd combo, but it really hit the spot and i didnt feel too gross afterwards, so that’s good news!  this morning i ate 3 egg whites with some cheese (my weakness.  add weaning myself off of cheese to the list of birthday resolutions!) and tomatoes and spinach.  i had some strawberries and pineapple on the side.  yuum-0!  lunch was delish as well but unfortunately out of convenience (my boss-person wanted us to work through lunch… on a friday!)  my only option was caesar salad.  at least it tasted good!

in other news, my brother got me some tomato and pepper plants for my birthday, so the plan for the weekend is to get them going!  it was such a sweet present, and i cant wait to eat home-grown veggies!  (yesterday, my boyfriend, being the city boy that he is asks “are those veggies even going to be edible?!” he’s got a lot to learn!)
